rifle is a powerful file executor that allows for complex file type checking,
written to meet the needs of the file manager I<ranger>.  rifle's strength lies
in automatically determining file types, depending on which programs are
installed on the system, even without any user interaction.

Specify flags for opening the files.  Flags are letters that changes how the
program is executed.  Any combination of flags will work.  Writing uppercase
flags will negate the effect of all previously used lowercase flags of the same
letter.

Table of all flags:
 f   fork program to background
 r   run program as root, using sudo
 t   run program in a separate terminal, as specified by $TERMCMD

List all possible ways to open the specified files.  Each line will contain information in the format of I<id:label:flags:command>. I<id> is the identification number. I<label> is an arbitrary string that was specified for this command, I<flags> are the flags that are used by default, and I<command> is the command that is going to be executed.

Pick a method to open the files.

I<KEYWORD> is either the ID number listed by C<rifle -l> or a string that matches a label in the configuration file.

Read configuration from I<CONFIG_FILE>, instead of the default.

=head1 FILES

rifle shares configuration files with ranger, though ranger is not required in
order to use rifle. The default configuration file F<rifle.conf> is expected
to be at F<~/.config/ranger/rifle.conf>. However, this can be overridden with
the B<-c> option. Note that due to the nature of the configuration, rifle will
only read one file, it will not read the defaults in addition.

This file specifies patterns for determining the commands to open files with.
The syntax is described in the comments of the default F<rifle.conf> that ships
with ranger.  To obtain it, you need to run: C<ranger --copy-config=rifle>

Determines which editor to use for editing files.

Determines which editor to use for editing files if VISUAL is undefined or
empty (in the default F<rifle.conf>). If both are undefined or empty, "vim" is

Determines the terminal emulator command for use with the I<t> flag.  It is required that the value is the path to an executable file which accepts the "-e COMMAND" argument.

tags however you want.  Press \*(L"t\*(R" to toggle tags and \*(L"ut\*(R" to remove any tags of

Rifle is the file opener of ranger.  It can be used as a standalone program or
a python module.  It is located at \fIranger/ext/rifle.py\fR.  In contrast to
other, more simple file openers, rifle can automatically find installed
programs so it can be used effectively out of the box on a variety of systems.

It's configured in \fIrifle.conf\fR through a list of conditions and commands.
For each line the conditions are checked and if they are met, the respective
command is taken into consideration.  By default, simply the first matching

you type.  When only one directory is left, it is entered and the console
is automatically reopened, allowing for fast travel.
To close the console, press \s-1ESC\s0 or execute a file.

ranger reads several configuration files which are located in
\&\fI\f(CI$HOME\fI/.config/ranger\fR or \fI\f(CI$XDG_CONFIG_HOME\fI/ranger\fR if \f(CW$XDG_CONFIG_HOME\fR is
defined.  You can use the \-\-copy\-config option to obtain the default
configuration files.  The files contain further documentation.

\&\fIrc.conf\fR, \fIcommands.py\fR and \fIcolorschemes\fR do not need to be copied fully
as they will only be adding to the default configuration files except if explicitly
overridden. This may lead to some confusing situations, for example when a key is
being bound despite the corresponding line being removed from the user's copy of
the configuration file. This behavior may be disabled with an environment
variable (see also: \fB\s-1ENVIRONMENT\s0\fR). Note: All other configuration files only
read from one source; i.e. default \s-1OR\s0 user, not both.
\&\fIrc.conf\fR and \fIcommands.py\fR are additionally read from \fI/etc/ranger\fR if they
exist for system-wide configuration, user configuration overrides system
configuration which overrides the default configuration.

When starting ranger with the \fB\-\-clean\fR option, it will not access or create
any of these files.

character is the bookmark key and the rest after the colon is the path to the
file.  In ranger, bookmarks can be set by typing m<key>, accessed by typing

files are saved in this file.  You can later run :load_copy_buffer to copy the
