Andrew Yu's Student Government Proposals

Hey there! The following are my proposals for the school. I did say ``Student Government Proposals'' in the headings and title, though these suggestions are not specific to Student Government. For example, it would be nice for the school administration to take care of some of these.

-
Disclaimer: I am running for Student Government this year. I don't see this as a conflict of interest against me giving honest suggestions (as it really shouldn't be), but just in case you're wondering, I've got that out front.

I don't see this as a conflict of interest against me giving honest suggestions (as it really shouldn't be), but just in case you're wondering, I've got that out front. If you believe that I will be valuable as a member of the Student Government compared to others (who by voting for me you cannot vote for), please vote for me. Please do not vote for me solely because these proposals make sense (I hope they do, though)—these do not, in its entirety, represent the full value of a person as a Student Government member.

Drinking Water Fountains

In addition to or in replacement for parts of the current drinking water bottle refill system, I propose adding drinking water fountains. As presented in Figure 1, a drinking water fountain allows its user to push a button (or otherwise trigger the fountain's water flow) for direct drinking or refilling a water bottle.

I do believe that students should not use their school emails for signing up to online services.

I'm not really sure about this one, I don't very strongly feel the need for change, though it'd be nice to have if we address other concerns like spam, abuse, etc.

+
Other People's Proposals

+
These are other people's proposals I see (and some comments):

+

+
Update and renew the auditorium

+
Install air-conditioning and maintain a clean floor for the underground room

+
Improve wireless network quality, especially in the dorms

+
Make the bathrooms less smelly

+
A wider selection for snacks and drinks

+
Make the cafeteria food better (though as someone that comes from a public school, the current food is good enough for me... I do see how this goes though, sometimes the chicken is too dry, we also don't have enough vitamin input... more fruits will be nice too)

+
The prices for stuff at the tea bar (I assume) are too high

+
Giving student-led CCAs and clubs more ``rights'' over discussing issues about the school—not sure where this is going, people can talk to student government or something, and most CCAs I know of aren't really related to school governing and stuff

+
Halloween activities?

+
Student-of-the-week autobiographies for StuLife Mag

+
Five-minute reminders before lessons, e.g. at 7:55 and 13:35, and bells in between lessons so people know how much time is left until the next lesson

+

+
This is not a comprehensive or official list and shall not be treated as such.

+
Free Software

+
I also have some proposals regarding the use of proprietary software at school. While I don't agree with all that GNU Education says, their point generally makes sense to me. Free software in education is a long story that I have strong feelings about and will take me a long time to write about. I'll focus on the other things on this page for now.
